Brendan Casey

This personal project was made in an attempt to practice more subtle acting and to highlight my love for Elden Ring. There are so many amazing voice lines in the game that have no animation tied to them because they are said in game. This voice line specifically is taken from the character Niphelli Loux, who is voiced by Cara Theobold.

   Meet Arthur McGuffin, a semi-ametuer treasure hunter who travels the galaxy looking for exciting finds! Unfortunately he's not the best at what he does, leaving his adventures to be more of a hobby. Arthur searches for the Polytesta Megapedalis egg on a desolate planet, and disaster ensues. 

     This animation was created for my final senior project. This project was worked on from August 2017- April 2018. All modeling, texturing, rigging, and animating were done myself.

Project Enigma was created by a group of Virginia Tech visual art students who were asked by Facebook to create a low poly room from scan data to be used in VR. The project consisted on 3 different rooms, a living room, and bedroom, and a dining room. All assets were either made with Agisoft Photoscan using photogrammetry or modeled in maya. The room comes from a FARO scanner and is then unwrapped in GeoMagic

A model I made based on the Aesop's Fable, "The Tortoise and the Hare." A variation of the story tells of a forest fire that spread through the woods after their race. The animal council decided to send the fastest animal of them to warn the rest of the forest, and so they sent the tortoise. 

Tortoises are a common symbol for luck, and this tortoise feels he is now unlucky. He carries a rabbits foot now to ensure that he'll never be unlucky ever again.

A project from my advanced character modeling class in which i was focusing on making clothing since all of my projects earlier in the semester were busts or nude bodies.

The high-poly model (Top) is 20.9 millions faces

Low-poly model (bottom) with displacement maps and normal maps is 5,166 faces.

Completed Spring of 2017

      A group project in which myself, Daniel Monzel, Hannah Comstock, and Lucas Freeman created a game from scratch in a semester. 

      In this game, you are a construction worker on a demolition team preparing to destroy Northstone Academy, a K-12 school closed indefinitely after strange occurrences amongst students and faculty led to the death of a child. 

     Explore the halls of Northstone Academy, and learn of the malicious and supernatural acts that led to the school's sudden closing.

     I was responsible for creative the majority of the game's assets. My pipeline was:

Maya modeling -> Hi-Poly detailing in Zbrush -> Substance Painter.

Renders of a classroom scene using Pixar's Renderman. Assets were modeled in Maya 2017 and texturing in Substance Painter 2

     In the fall of 2016 I was in a 3D Visual Heritage class. The objective of the course was to create a Virtual Reality simulation of the Smithfield-Preston Plantation in Blacksburg, Va in collaboration with the history and education departments of Virginia Tech. The outdoor environment was scanned using a DJI drone and a Faro 3D scanner. The interior of the house was also scanned using the Faro. Props and assets were made using both photogrammetry and a hand held 3D scanner, which were then retoped in Maya and refined in Zbrush. 

     I was personally responsible for scanning all of the inside of the house, along with scanning and modeling objects, such as a broken shotgun stock (photogrammetry) and a wicker chair (handheld scanner). I was also responsible for retoping the basement of the house, as the objects in the rooms reflected the scanner's lasers too much and created an extremely messy model. I managed to bring the basement from 800,000 faces to 850 faces. This is an ongoing project that I will be participating in again in the future to create an educational simulation of this historic site.

This was a collaborative project created by myself and Sarah Vucovich in our "Intro to New Media" class. Our prompt was to use stop motion to make a video about the impossible, and we chose to bring a cartoon to life. The character in each frame was drawn by hand, cut out, posed, and photographed. I drew all of the drawings and Sarah photographed them and posed them throughout the scene.
